Dr. Damian Smith
Orthopaedic Surgeon Canberra
Passionate about helping people achieve life changing results through integrated orthopaedic care, Dr Damian Smith is a highly trained orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in lower limb surgery. He’s also one of Australia’s Orthopaedic surgeons that has embraced advances in robotic surgery and was the first doctor to perform a hip replacement in Canberra using the world-leading Mako robotic-arm surgical support system.
After successfully completing his Orthopaedic training in 2008 at the University of Sydney, he went on to complete post graduate fellowships in orthopaedic surgery. This saw him train overseas in the United Kingdom in internationally recognised fellowships in hip and knee joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic knee surgery and paediatric orthopaedics.
As well as being a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and member of the Australian Medical Association and Australian Orthopaedic Association, Dr Smith is trauma trained and regularly works the on call roster covering orthopaedic trauma and fracture management at The Canberra Hospital. He is committed to maintaining a high standard of care and ongoing professional development through the training and mentoring of up and coming medical students and surgical trainees.

Boasting an impressive career spanning over two decades in the healthcare industry, Maree brings a wealth of expertise and a deep understanding of the intricacies of the healthcare system.
Maree’s professional journey has been diverse, encompassing roles in GP reception, aged care nursing, and administration management. This diverse background has equipped her with a comprehensive perspective on healthcare, allowing her to navigate its complexities with finesse and insight.
For the past 11 years, Maree has been an integral part of the orthopaedic administration landscape in Canberra, where she has exclusively dedicated her skills to the management of orthopaedic practices. Her prolonged and focused experience in this field positions her as a seasoned professional with an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges and dynamics within orthopaedic administration.
Maree’s qualifications in health, bookkeeping, and management further underscore her commitment to excellence. This educational foundation, combined with her extensive practical experience, empowers Maree to lead the InMotion Orthopaedics team effectively. Her holistic approach ensures that patient care is seamlessly integrated from the administrative to the clinical aspects of the entire healthcare process.
As our Practice Manager, Maree plays a pivotal role in orchestrating a well-coordinated and patient-centric approach within our practice.
Nicola Bell
Medical Secretary
Meet Nicola Bell, our dedicated and professional Medical Secretary and Administrator at InMotion Orthopaedics. Nicola brings with her a wealth of experience garnered from diverse secretarial and administrative roles within both the Military and Medical Sectors.
Originally hailing from the South West of the UK, Nicola’s journey began in the Royal Navy, where she served before transitioning to the National Health Service (NHS). Within the NHS, Nicola contributed her skills to various hospitals, notably in the departments of Clinical Genetics, Neurology, and Rheumatology. This extensive exposure allowed her to refine her knowledge across multiple disciplines within the demanding landscape of acute medical environments.
Having relocated to Australia with her Military family, Nicola continued her career in the medical field by working in a General Practice in NSW. Her journey has now led her to become an integral part of Dr. Smith’s team in a Private Practice setting within InMotion Orthopaedics.
Beyond her professional qualifications, Nicola is known for her friendly and approachable demeanour. Recognising the potential concerns patients may have when attending medical appointments, Nicola is committed to ensuring that each patient feels as comfortable and supported as possible throughout their orthopaedic journey.
