Hip
Replacement

Drawing on extensive training, experience and robotic surgery expertise, Dr Damian Smith has consistently delivered successful outcomes.

If you suffer from chronic pain, swelling and stiffness in your hip, you may be a candidate for a hip replacement.

Hip replacement surgery is a safe and effective procedure that can relieve your pain, increase motion, and help you get back to enjoying normal, everyday activities.

In a total hip replacement, you will be placed under regional or general anaesthesia and your damaged bone and cartilage is removed and replaced with prosthetic components. These artificial hip parts are fixed in place to encourage your biological bone to fuse with the artificial hip. Most procedures take no more than an hour, with many patients going home in as little as 3 or 4 days. Joint replacement surgery is a highly successful procedure and all care is taken to optimise your result. That being said, any surgery has potential risks and complications that you should be aware of and discuss with Dr Smith and your GP.

With more than 18 years experience and extensive training in hip and knee joint replacement surgery, and computer navigated and robotic assisted joint replacement surgery, Dr Damian Smith has delivered highly successful outcomes for patients requiring hip replacements.

Not everyone needs an operation however. Our practice takes a holistic approach that explores non-surgical treatments, depending on your condition or injury, including weight reduction and lifestyle changes, physical therapies and rehabilitation programs.
